The board of the Georgia Environmental Facilities Authority on Tuesday approved a $3 million loan to Barrow County for the construction of recently announced sewer improvements.
The loan is the largest loan from the Georgia Fund in the state in the current fiscal year, according to Barbara McElroy, a program manager at the authority.
There was some confusion shortly after the board’s action, however, because the board approved the funding for the Kerala Gardens development on Robertson Bridge Road not far from the intersection of Hwy. 53 and Hwy. 81.

Must be better to go into debt the ask for money already spent... The county could have applied for a grant from the Federal Government for rural counties to establish \ improve water treatment facilities... Just Google "rural water treatment federal grants" There's a whole bunch of tax dollars already collect from us just looking to be spent... But, no, the county citizens are just roll'n in it... After all whats another bond... Just more money they can get out us, our children and their children...

Barrow doesn't appear to be eligible for any of those programs. Which one are you referring to?

It seems to me millions of dollars being spent should be questioned a little more. I'm no expert but I know the guys out there moving dirt aren't getting rich off these projects. Where does all the money go? I can't help but think that in these times someone in a suit and tie is making a lot of money off these contracts and that's why it cost 3 million to do a 150K job, sounds a little fishy. I'm just sayin'...
