WBHS student charged with disorderly conduct

Winder Police were called to the school after a student reported her purse stolen. The purse was later recovered with most of its contents, but the student’s cash was missing.

The student said she placed her purse on the floor next to her locker and forgot to pick it up before she went to class. When she realized her purse was missing, she returned to her locker but the purse was gone.

The assistant principal checked the school security camera and observed Martika Mayweather, 18, of 187 Charles Court in Winder, pick up the purse and walk into a bathroom.

Mayweather was called into the assistant principal’s office and confronted about the incident. Mayweather initially denied knowing anything about the theft, but later confessed when she realized there was video evidence.

Mayweather admitted taking the money out of the purse and leaving the purse and the rest of its contents in the bathroom. Mayweather said she later felt bad about taking the money and was going to return it, but was not allowed to leave class to go back to the bathroom.

Mayweather returned the money and was issued a citation for disorderly conduct. She was also given a three day in-school suspension and a three-day out of school suspension. Mayweather was released to her mother on the citation.
