Police arrest robbery suspect

Winder Police have arrested the suspect from an April 27 robbery at the Best Western on West Athens Street.

Police located Phillip Wells, 27, in a hotel in Athens. Wells was arrested on charges of armed robbery, aggravated assault, possession of firearm by convicted felon, possession of firearm during the commission of a crime and carrying a pistol without a license.

Wells was identified after surveillance video showed him entering the hotel. After briefly speaking with the clerk, Wells allegedly brandished a handgun and escaped with more than $300 from the hotel cash drawer.

He was booked into the Barrow County Detention Center on May 6.
