Three months after three employees joined together to file Equal Employment Opportunity Commission charges of race and gender discrimination against the county government, an attorney for the county’s liability insurance company has filed strongly worded responses on the county’s behalf.
Benton J. Mathis Jr. of Freeman Mathis & Gary represents liability insurer Public Risk Underwriters (Travelers), which faces a potential $2 million loss due to that annual cap on all “employment practices” claims during the current fiscal year.
County attorney Angela Davis last week released copies of the firm’s EEOC responses.
She said this week that the insurance company’s law firm has taken over the county’s defense of the claims filed by Human Resources director Norma Jean Brown, senior network administrator Sebastian Ododa, and planner Daunte Gibbs.

Let's see. Gee it’s only cost some 50,000.00 for the defense investigation + 10,000.00 insurance deductable + whatever hours the County attorney has bilked ... sorry billed out of her 250,000.00 ~ 500,000.00 retainer... Boy that's cheap... I mean 10,000 hear 50,000 there it’s not real money until the attorney goes back to them after they have blown through all that retainer money. Must be a Socialist... nope, sorry Social Republican thing... They just don't care how much they spend because they are just right you know...

This is so sad. The people of Barrow County had better wake up! Danny Yearwood and associates have been nothing short of poison to this county and it's leadership since the day he took office. The man has absolutely no qualifications to carry out the duties and responsibilities for which he was elected. The key word here is "elected". We have been without a Finance Director for many months now; Danny Yearwood has done everything he can to stall hiring someone for this position. He first said that we didn't need anyone. Wrong. There's not one person on our board of commissioners that has the knowlege or skills to even attempt to fill this role, especially Danny Yearwood! Then he said "ok"; I coud use someone to "assign projects". What we need is someone to mangage our county's finances and to hold our elected commissioners accountable for what they do. The stalling continued: HR director was instructed to advertise for a Finance Director; the whole process was fed to the media, with Danny Yearwood actually stating that "we've narrowed it down to three candidates and they are all women". Interesting statement. Then he made an executive decision: we're not going to hire anyone; we're overhauling the finance department. He's stalling. His ego will not allow him to except and admit that he cannot run this county. Do I think he said and did the things alleged in the law suits pending? Absolutely! Again, I've lived here a long time, and I know him and his associates, both past and present (that's right Danny, remember your past? I do!). He's laughing at us people, supposing that we don't know better. I do.

I don't think you can blame this one on Danny yearwood. Norma Jean Brown should be put out the door, what an expense she has been to this county. Ever heard the saying you think education is expensive try ignorance well there you go. She should never been put in that position and now the taxpayers are paying the price for the boards and her incompetance, she will stop at nothing to get her way and hang on to that job she was never qualified to be in. I want to know why the county attorney is not handling this case with her overpaid salary, I will tell you why because that is Norma Jean's friend and she does not have the best interest of Barrow County at heart, she is all about her own pocketbook and Norma Jean's agenda, she should be reported tp the State Bar Association. The commissioners need to wake up and get the albatrose out from around the employees and Barrow County's neck.
