Two Barrow County Emergency Services personnel were honored April 26 during the Northeast Georgia Region 10 Emergency Medical Services Awards Banquet.
Fire medic Jeremy Thayer and Firefighter/EMT Frank Queen were honored for their outstanding work.
“Both of these employees are very dedicated to the citizens they serve and to the field of emergency medical services,” said Barrow County Emergency Services interim chief John Skinner. “Of course there are many personnel in our department that deserve to be recognized. The two gentlemen that received the awards are a great example of the kind of dedication, training and experience that the people of Barrow County Emergency Services are known for.”
Thayer was nominated as the Paramedic of the Year for Barrow County Emergency Services. An employee of Barrow County Emergency Services since July of 2006, Thayer received his paramedic certification in 2008. He is a member of the department’s recently formed Emergency Medical Services Committee and, according to public information officer Lt. Scott Dakin, Thayer strives constantly to learn and help others to learn as well.
“Jeremy is a pleasure to work with and is very dependable in doing the best for his patients,” Skinner said. “He always helps this department shine in whatever he is asked to do.”
Firefighter/EMT Frank Queen works for both Barrow County Emergency Services and Walton County EMS. He was nominated as the EMT of the Year for Walton County.
Queen, an EMT for ten years and a firefighter for the past 23 years, joined Barrow County Emergency Services in February of 2005. Queen was recognized for his dedication to training and his expertise developed through years of experience in the field.
“Although Frank was nominated for Walton County, we share in the pride of this award,” said Skinner. “He is a valuable employee to both departments and for the entire emergency medical service field.”
Skinner said Barrow County Emergency Services is very proud of both Thayer and Queen.
“With these awards being given to them it just shows the level of service this entire department offers our citizens,” Skinner said.
