A ten-year old Bethlehem boy suffered a shotgun wound to the lower part of his body in what officials describe as an accidental shooting.
Accidental shooting seriously injures Bethlehem boy
Emergency responders were dispatched to the home on Herald Drive shortly before 12 p.m. in response to a 911 call.
Barrow County Sheriff’s deputies found the victim and another juvenile at the residence.
According to Chief Deputy Murray Kogod, the other juvenile, a 12-year-old friend of the victim, accidentally shot the younger boy.
“All indications of the preliminary investigation are that this was truly an accidental shooting,” Kogod said.
The victim, whose name has not yet been released, was taken by Lifeflight helicopter to Children’s Hospital at Eggleston. The boy is reported to be in serious condition, but is expected to survive.
Kogod said the investigation is ongoing and no charges have been filed at this time.
“We’re still investigating the entire incident and we’ll go from there,” he said.
