Winder city administrator Bob Beck died at his Auburn home early Tuesday.
Though he had been away from work since April 21 after experiencing heart trouble, his death came as a shock to city officials, because he appeared to be recovering well.
“I got a phone call this morning about 5 o’clock, and it was very bad news about Bob,” said Mayor Chip Thompson on Tuesday afternoon. “I was, of course, upset. And very shocked.”
Beck, 68, had been planning to return to work Monday, which would have been his 10th anniversary with the city government.
“That was the plan,” Thompson said. “He was going to have to go back to the doctor to get released, but he was planning on coming back to work Monday.”

I've only met him once and he was very helpful in getting my water bill straightened out... I hope that everyone keeps his family in their thoughts.

Despite the many things that has been in the news about Bob the last few months, I found him to be someone I enjoyed running into at different functions. Bob was a pleasure to talk to. Bob, you will be missed.

Bob was a very nice and loving man. Couldn't find a better person. He will be missed. Go with god and rest your head in the clouds.
