Last week’s BarrowJournal.com poll asked respondents if they believed recent budget meetings held by the City of Winder violated the state’s open meeting law. Under that law, meetings of a public board or council must be open to the public and should be announced in advance with limited exceptions.
Over 44 percent of respondents indicated their belief that the Winder budget meetings did violate state law. Almost 20 percent of those polled said the meetings were not held in violation of government requirements.
A large number of poll participants - 20 percent – indicated they did not care if the meetings violated state law or not. The “don’t know” option garnered 14 percent of the vote.
