Carl is in talks to begin paying the mayor and council members only if they show up for monthly and called meetings.
As it stands now, they are paid regardless. Mayor David Brock raised the point at the town’s meeting Thursday night, but did not say if it was due to any certain members missing repeated meetings.
Council member Rebecca Knight immediately made her stance known as against the motion.
“I object to it,” she said. “I get phone calls in my office all the time because people can’t get in here and people’s got questions about what’s going on in this city.”
Brock said that he also receives calls during the day and does work other times than solely at council meetings.

I think it's good for elected officials to only be paid if they attend unless they happen to be on vacation or handling city business on that particular day out of town. After all, aren't they suppose to be at the meetings????? I thought that was their job.

City council members know when there are council meetings scheduled and should be able to arrange their personal plans around the meetings. I am sure that emergency absences are unavoidable but the council members are sreving their citizens and SHOULD be at all meetings. If not presnt they should NOT be paid!! If they are absent they have not done their job. Receiving a phone call at work is part of the job description for the position. The salary is for attending meetings. If you aren't there you deserve no pay.

Just like the Knights wanting something for nothing. How low can you go to be in a Public seat, not show up, and expect to get pay. Do you do business with the Knights you better re-think that. Do not roll over for them.
