The council approved the application during its June meeting last Thursday after taking comments from citizens during a public hearing. No citizen in attendance spoke against the business, which will be located at 1304 Atlanta Highway, obtaining the license.
One citizen did question how the local police department would handle the increased possibility of drivers under the influence. A representative of the Auburn Police Department said three officers are routinely on duty each at all times and should be able to handle any increased traffic coming from the business.
The total cost for the business licenses for Dakota’s Grill will be approximately $6,000.
In other business at Thursday’s June meeting, council members:
•were informed of the hiring of two new police officers. James Boyd arrives at the Auburn Police Department from the Gainesville Police Department. Boyd had six years of experience. In addition, Shane Turner, who has worked previously with the Palmetto Police Department and the Tyrone Police Department, is now working for Auburn. Both officers are POST certified.
•approved an ordinance to amend the City of Auburn Code to require a special use permit for automotive sales lots and associated service facilities. This ordinance will require new and used car lots to have at least three acres of space require a special use permit to go with what businesses are located in the area.
