The President has just recently signed a treaty with Russia limiting the production of nuclear weapons that can be significant in attempts to keep a lid on the chances of a nuclear holocaust. Both countries can together or individually turn out the lights worldwide in a heartbeat. For the first time in decades it appears that reasonable men are actively working towards peaceful conclusions to long festering and hitherto unsolved problems. Maybe it won't happen, but why not give it a shot?
Sarah Palin may be a dim bulb, but she does have a lot of fans and her rantings can arouse enough of those fans to create disturbances and violent actions to set events in motion that may lead to irreversible and deadly consequences. This is something all political candidates need to ponder.
Sincerely,
George Morin

Iran's Nuclear Progress Stirs Doubts About U.S. Approach to Regime
There was a time when the USA had the GREATEST and STRONGEST military force. Where are we now? How many bases have been shut down? How many military programs tossed to the side? And who did that? What president(s)?
There was something my father told me as a child. This was back in the 70's. He said it is not Russia or China we have to fear, but one of the smaller countries that will one day have the capability to create nuclear weapons.
I heard on the news the other day that Iran will have the capability to strike (nuclear) the US by 2015. Scary thought.
But what do we do about it? Do we build more nuclear bombs? So when they launch theirs we launch ours? Or do we try to find a peaceful solution?
I vote for finding a peaceful solution. If we engage in nuclear war, there ARE NO winners.
So yes, I'm all for signing a treaty with Russia limiting the number of nuclear weapons produced. Next we need to engage in talks with the other countries that have nuclear capability.
Limit the number that can be made, monitor the up and coming nations that are building nuclear weapons, work toward a peace treaty with them. BUT also be prepared for the one that's determined to take us out.
