Recently released data from the United States Census Bureau shows a 57 percent increase in state sales tax revenue in the fourth quarter of 2009 compared to the last quarter of 2008.
According to the Census Bureau, tax revenues nationwide grew in the fourth quarter, marking the first positive growth in five quarters.
While overall individual income tax and general sales tax revenues declined across the country, corporate income tax and property tax revenue increased.
In Georgia, personal income tax revenue fell by 8.5 percent and corporate net income tax collections dropped by 40.1 percent.
The Census Bureau’s quarterly survey of state and local government tax revenue has been conducted continuously since 1962.
