Police officer injured in accident

An officer with the Duluth Police Department was injured as a result of a Thursday morning motorcycle accident in Barrow County.

Duluth Police Department spokesman Maj. Don Woodruff said the officer was transported to Athens Regional Medical Center for treatment. Woodruff said he did not have any details regarding the extent of the officer’s injuries. The officer’s name has not been released.

The incident occurred on Rockwell Church Road between Moon Bridge Road and Highway 53. Authorities said a car turned into the path of the motorcycle.

Georgia State Patrol is handling the investigation.
