BOC censures Yearwood

The Barrow County Board of Commissioners has once again voted to censure Chairman Danny Yearwood.

In a 4-2 vote, the board admonished Yearwood for refusing to attend anger management training. The commission also voted to limit the chairman’s authority related to personnel matters.

As a result of a three month long investigation into allegations of misconduct levied against Yearwood and department manager Lyn Clement, Cartersville attorney David Archer recommended Yearwood complete anger management and government management classes.

Though Archer found no laws had been broken, he did conclude that Yearwood and Clement had violated county policies prohibiting conduct offensive to employees.

Yearwood has publicly denied that he has anger management issues. In February, Yearwood told the Barrow Journal that he did not plan to take anger management classes because he never yells. He indicated that any elevation in his voice level during conversations is due to a hearing problem.

King Temperwood is. Just wanted to reach out and smack that smirk right off his face last night.

I wish the commissioners could do more than censure. I wish the voters of Barrow County were not as apathy.

Band together and recall the jerk.

I would love to see Danny go. Unfortunately, a recall is problematic for a couple of reasons - first, there has to be some reason that would stand up in court - he really has to do something that has a major impact on the citizenry - and being stupid isn't enough. Secondly, a recall would require the signature of over 13,000 registered voters - 30 percent of those individuals "eligible" to vote in the election where he was elected. At the time, there were almost 45,000 registered voters in Barrow County.
Trust me, Danny knows this and knows that there is entirely too much apathy in Barrow County to get the ball rolling on this.
On a side note, Mr. Sit on the Sidelines Larry Joe Wilburn did not participate in the executive session during which a new CFO was selected last night - he was at the meeting and voted in open session to hire the new CFO but never went behind closed doors to participate in the discussion. Don't those of you in the 1st district feel good about not being represented?

I'm in district 1 and Wilburn IS NOT representing the voters in his district. I am curious on how he voted for the CFO when he sat out the closed door session (again).

Just proves my point that he's voting simply to be voting and neither knows or cares about the issues at hand.

On a side note: you only need 30% of the voters who voted in the election in which the chairman was elected. That would be around 7,500 signatures. But I agree, the people of Barrow County have been beaten down and given up -- sad that thugs run this county.

And it's the reason traffic makes a left hand turn off 85.

Good job 4 of 6 commissioners! for voting to censure the chairman. Even if you don't have much power over him, you can represent your constituents by expressing your disapproval of his ongoing antics. Wonder if he'd agree to use that money he's saving not going to anger management class to buy a new hearing aide? Then at least he wouldn't have an excuse to yell all the time.
