A Winder woman called the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office after her vehicle was reportedly damaged as she was driving on Matthew School Road near Bill Rutledge Road.
The woman claimed she hit a pothole which damaged her front right tire and rim.
The deputy asked the woman for her insurance card, but the woman refused to provide it saying she was not reporting the incident to her insurance company.
When the deputy asked who she intended to report the damage to, the woman said she planned to submit the report to the county so that she could be reimbursed for the damage to her vehicle.
The deputy advised the woman that he was not familiar with any county policy of reimbursing people who strike potholes.
After completing the report, the deputy attempted to locate the pothole, but was unable to find it.
Four days later, the woman contacted the Winder Police Department to file a report. The woman informed the responding officer that her vehicle was damaged as she was driving on Bill Rutledge Road near Horton Street instead of on Matthew School Road as she had previously advised the Sheriff’s deputy.
The woman said city administrator Bob Beck told her the City of Winder would pay for the damages to her vehicle, but she needed to make a report with Winder Police.
The woman estimated that it would cost $600 to repair the damages.
