Downtown Winder is a dump. It has been for years. I think the city is way past "stopping the slide". All that development out on 316? Thats Bethlehem, and thats where the future growth of this county lies. Slapping lipstick on the pig that is Winder is a waste of money. Dollars will be much better spent developing the county outside the city limits of Winder. As for marketing down town to attract "professionals", how's that development at Turtle Creek coming? How many of those "professional duplexs" are still empty?

Ok. Like I said before, Winder can be fixed with work and effort. It may take a while, maybe to long, but it can be done. From what I understand, they are going to keep the Adult Learning and Continuing Education downtown(Which is a good thing) and move the Technical College to 316/81. How about keeping the Adult Learning and Continuing Education downtown like they are planning to do and move the Lanier Tech (if they really have to)next to or near the courthouse and spread out a little more to keep the town from overflowing to much when they do fix downtown and at least it will not be so far away if the school just needs to grow like the courthouse did. I would hate to say build a bigger Post office out there too because we need some things in Downtown but there's alot of options out there rather then just let the town die. How about move the sheriffs office to the new Courthouse and refurbish the historic courthouse for a nice City Hall for Winder. Hello...I'd Love to see a Starbucks in Downtown Winder. Maybe in the remodeled Historic Granite Hotel. A Krispy Creme or Dunkin Donuts would be nice too. As for the Old Peskins Department store I believe it could be fixed up to something nice. Lots of possibility. Be Creative.
