Statham Police investigate hit and run

Statham Police are investigating a Feb. 18 hit and run on Atlanta Highway near Jefferson Street.

A vehicle stopped while waiting for traffic to clear was struck from behind by a black pick-up truck. The driver of the truck fled the scene before police arrived.

The hit and run was one of two accidents at that location on Feb. 18. There were no injuries reported.

Police are investigating a Feb. 21 theft at a Granite Lane residence. Several power tools were reported missing.

Statham officers made two arrests during the past week. Jacob Scott Kirkland, 18, of 1608 Butterfly Lane in Statham was arrested on a probation violation warrant.

Chad Edward Anderson, 28, of 178 Sam Dye Road in Young Harris was charged with DUI, expired tag, open container and possession of marijuana after a traffic stop on Feb. 20.

For the week, Statham officers issued 13 traffic citations and three warnings.
