A former Hoschton resident has been arrested for the murder of his estranged wife.
Phillip Chad Dunn, 28, fatally stabbed Shelley Dyan Dunn, of Buford, in the parking lot of a Gwinnett County Wal-Mart on Feb. 14. The attack took place when the two met to exchange custody of their young children.
When police arrived at the Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road store, they found Shelley Dunn unconscious and Phillip Dunn suffering from a self-inflicted knife wound. Both parties were transported to Gwinnett Medical Center where Shelley Dunn was pronounced dead.
Dunn, who recently moved from Barrow County to Lawrenceville, has been charged with murder and is currently being held in the Gwinnett County Detention Center. He had been released from the Barrow County Detention Center only four days before the fatal attack occurred.
Dunn bonded out of the Barrow County Detention Center on Feb. 10 after nine days in confinement. He was arrested by Barrow County Sheriff’s deputies on Feb. 1 after reportedly choking his wife in their Hoschton home. Dunn was charged with family violence aggravated battery, family violence aggravated assault and family violence battery in connection with the attack.
At the time of the report, Shelley Dunn told deputies she feared for her life as her husband choked her. According to the report, Shelley had visible red marks around her neck. The attack, which happened as she sat near a fireplace, also caused burns to Shelley's arms which the reporting deputy noted would "more than likely cause permanent scars."
Dunn admitted choking his wife saying he "lost it" because he believed she had feelings for another man. Dunn claimed that he and wife reconciled after the argument and went to bed.
As a condition of Dunn's Feb. 10 release, he was prohibited from any contact with Shelley Dunn.
The same DA lets a guy who killed four people including two children, by burning them alive in their house plead to life to escape the death penalty???
I also heard that he is letting two people charged with murder in Banks County go. What is going on with our DA????
The person you need to be upset at is the magistrate court judge. The magistrate court judge sets bonds for pre-trail inmates. In Barrow County's case, that would be Judge June Davis, the duly elected magistrate judge, or her number one flunky, Judge Brock. An inmate goes before the judge and she sets the bond depending on her mood, or whatever guideline she uses to determine the amount of the bond and whatever special stipulations she decides to placed on the accused. She can also deny the bond and remand the case to Superior Court for a Superior Court judge to set a bond.
