Man takes car after being asked to move it

Donnie Ray Bevers, 30, of 475 Cedar Ridge Drive in Winder, asked for the keys to a woman’s vehicle so that he could move it out of the way of another vehicle at the residence.

Bevers moved the car and then came back inside and asked for a cigarette. Bevers went outside to smoke while the woman continued her visit with another household resident.

When the woman went outside to get in her car, she noticed it was gone and called 911.

While the deputy was taking the motor vehicle theft report, Bevers returned to the residence. The deputy arrested Bevers when a criminal history check showed he had an outstanding warrant for probation violation in connection with a previous armed robbery.

The vehicle owner declined to press theft charges since Bevers was being taken to jail anyway.
