The American Red Cross is assisting a Statham family after a Jan. 25 fire destroyed their home.
Just after 4 p.m. on Monday, communication officers with Barrow County Emergency Services received a 911 call reporting a structure fire at 65 Jefferson Road.
First arriving firefighters found a doublewide mobile home that was approximately fifty percent involved. “Crews made an aggressive interior attack on the fire and were able to bring the flames under control,” said Lieutenant Scott Dakin, public information officer for the department. “Using manpower from three engines the fire was extinguished. However, due to the amount of damage done prior to our arrival, the home was a total loss.”
Engines 1, 3 and 6 as well as Med 1 and Battalion 1 responded to the fire. Interim fire chief John Skinner also responded to the scene and assisted with the interior fire attack.
The Fire Investigations Unit responded to the scene to conduct an origin and cause exam. Investigator D. Skinner determined where the fire originated. The cause remains under investigation.
