Man too busy to obey traffic direction

The deputy was directing traffic at County Line Elementary School on Rockwell Church Road when he noticed a silver passenger car approaching his location at a high rate of speed. The deputy was forced to halt traffic exiting the school parking lot when he realized the driver was not slowing despite the deputy’s attempts to signal him to stop.

According to the report, the man finally stopped his vehicle after “he realized that a collision was eminent if he did not.”

The deputy asked for the man’s license and instructed him to wait in the school parking lot until the deputy was finished directing traffic.

After the man pulled into the parking lot, he exited his vehicle and walked towards the deputy. At the time, the deputy was directing four lanes of vehicle traffic.

When the man started to walk into the roadway, the deputy ordered him to stop. The man then entered the intersection and began to argue that he was late for an appointment. The deputy was forced to stop all traffic due to the interruption. The deputy warned the man that if he did not return to his vehicle, he would be arrested for obstruction.

The man reluctantly returned to his vehicle. Once the deputy finished directing school traffic, he cited the man for failure to obey an officer directing traffic and released him.

Other recent incidents investigated by Barrow County Sheriff’s deputies include:

• ordinance violation on Dean Way. A wrecker company was advised not to let their employee park wrecker trucks in his yard.

• speeding complaint on Miller Springs Road. A woman complained that a red Ford pickup and a red Ford Focus drive extremely fast through the neighborhood around the times that school begins and ends.

• burglary on Atlanta Highway. Two credit cards and two money orders were stolen from a business.

• financial transaction card fraud on Centennial Drive. Nine charges totaling just over $60 were fraudulently made using the victim’s debit card account.

• theft by deception on Loganville Highway. Two stolen garage door openers were sold to the victim.

• harassing phone calls on Atlanta Highway. A woman said her ex-boyfriend has called and threatened to shoot her if she goes outside.

• neighborhood complaint on Centennial Drive. A man called police after his neighbor left plastic bags full of dog excrement in his yard. The neighbor claimed the waste was from the man’s dog and that she had pictures of the dog relieving himself in her yard.

• civil dispute on Turk Road. A grandmother ordered her granddaughter to move out of her home saying she was tired of the granddaughter and the granddaughter’s boyfriend living off her.

• harassing phone calls on Sims Road. A woman said her adult stepchildren were harassing her to gain access to their father’s money. One of the stepchildren said the woman had removed $45,000 from their father’s account and placed it into an account only she could access.

• damage to vehicle on Tom Miller Road. A woman said her Ford Mustang was damaged when she drove over some loose rocks on the roadway in an area where county crews had been working.

• entering auto on Browns Road. A gas cap, hub cap, auto jack and one gallon of gas were stolen from a 1985 Volvo.

• dispute on Harmony Grove Church Road. A woman said she and her 10-year-old son were harassed by a 17-year-old male.

• dispute on Peace Circle. A woman claimed her fiancé’s brother shoved her and caused her to fall.

• theft by taking on Autumn Avenue. A four wheeler was stolen from the residence.

• burglary on Dee Kennedy Road. Jewelry, a television, an Xbox gaming system, a Toshiba laptop and a window air conditioning unit were stolen from the residence.

• financial transaction card fraud on Kendall Park Drive. A man reported that a woman he met at a bar made three unauthorized transactions totaling approximately $40 on his debit card.

• 911 hang up on Natalie Drive. A man said he called 911 to get the number for Gwinnett County 911 so that he could make a complaint about a Gwinnett County police officer speeding on Highway 316.

• abandoned vehicle on Hwy. 316. A man became angry when a deputy impounded his car after the man creating a traffic hazard by abandoning his vehicle in the middle of a turn lane. The man demanded the deputy pay the impound fee. The deputy refused explaining that the man should not have abandoned his vehicle.

• suspicious noise on Harold Day Road. A woman said she hears strange noises coming from her porch each night as she gets ready for bed.

• criminal trespass on Regency Drive. A homemade noise bomb was detonated on a man’s front porch.

• criminal trespass on Bethlehem Road. Deputies were dispatched to the residence after a woman noticed a male dressed all in black walking through her back yard.

• neighborhood complaint on Punkin Junction Road. A man complained because his neighbor’s were setting off fireworks.

• damaged mailbox on Rockwell Church Road. A mailbox valued at $70 was damaged.

• criminal damage on Foster Road. A landlord reported that a tenant caused $2,560 in damages.

• theft by taking on Jefferson Highway. A 1971 Ford F250 valued at $1,100 was stolen.

• fraud on Patrick Mill Road. A woman reported that her two ex-roommates used her identity to purchase rings worth $300.

• theft by taking on Boss Hardy Road. Approximately $250 worth of tools were stolen from the bed of a truck.

• burglary on Bill Rutledge Road. Over $6,700 worth of items were stolen from a detached garage.

• theft on Cypress Place. A woman said she loaned her Taurus handgun to her stepson and that he has not yet returned it.

• fraud on Langdon Park Drive. A woman learned someone used her identity to open an account with Dish Network.

• criminal trespass on Raymond Drive. A caller reported juveniles were inside a vacant house.

• financial transaction card fraud on Mill Creek Road. A woman reported that someone charged $500 to her credit card.

• complaint on Atlanta Highway. A scam artist pretending to represent Barrow Memorial Gardens has been attempting to sell burial plots for $1,000 each.
