Winder Barrow Middle School has been invited to display student artwork in the new Lamar Dodd School of Art at the University of Georgia.
Art work from the fall semester of 2009 will be on display.
Last semester, eighth grade students emulated the realist painters Chuck Close and Richard Estes. Students also took on the tedious task of creating realistic celebrity portraits.
Seventh graders experimented with op-art design, illusion and complimentary colors to create vibrant, hypnotic and electric images. In addition, they studied abstract expressionist work and created wire sculptures inspired by Alexander Calder.
Sixth graders spent a week outside observing nature and its importance to art. Inspired by Van Gogh, the students produced drawings of trees with value and color to illustrate season and emotion.
The UGA art education department hosts art shows and receptions to promote exemplary achievement of artistic skills and art history.
The opening reception will be Sunday, January 24, 2010 from 2-4 p.m. The School of Art is located on 270 River Road, between the Georgia Museum and Ramsey Center. The show will run for approximately three weeks.
