The Barrow County Board of Commissioners at a called meeting Tuesday afternoon publicly reprimanded Chairman Danny Yearwood.

On a 4-2 vote, the board passed a resolution censuring the chairman for divulging in a Jan. 13 statement to the media some confidential information about ongoing legal matters.

The resolution also included a threat to take further action if Yearwood were to continue such actions.

Voting against the measure were commissioners Larry Joe Wilburn and Eva Elder, who were the only board members who commented on the measure before the vote.

Yearwood directed the meeting but did not comment on the resolution or on his Jan. 13 statement.

Well, this is a start. Yearwood really needs to be removed from office. Either by doing the honorable thing and resigning, or kicking and screaming like a pouting two-year old as the result of a recall.

Chairman is elected. Commissioners have no power over him. This action was symbolic at best. Really means nothing in the long run. He does NOT answer to them, only the voters.

This guy is a hoot. He has no experience in running a sunday school meeting. Failed car salesmen = Failed Barrow County.

who's going to foot the bill for the county attorney ACTING AS COUNCIL for Yearwood. When the two of them went into a PRIVATE meeting, she BECAME his council AND NOT that of the county.

So who's going to pay her "billable" hours?

Why what a foolish question the taxpayers of course, just like they are paying for the investigation and all the rest of the foolish nonsense that is going on in Barrow County at the moment.She is just as much the chairman's attorney as she is the board's, anymore questions ?

She is not the Chairman's Attorney. She is contracted be Board of Commissioners, of which he is a single member. Her job is to serve the board not a single memeber, and it simply goes to the character of the Chairman to put her in the middle of his mistakes by asking for a recess to serve his on purpose. He should have consulted her before his inappropriate actions were taken.

The next step the board of commissioners needs to take is to formally request the chairman's resignation. His mistakes and misjudgments are costing us WAY TOO MUCH in legal and investigation fees!

Cost the county too much in legal fees? Legal fees are a drop in the bucket. What about the 1 million dollars in stimulus money he gave to MARTA? MARTA? We don't need the tranportation dollars and yet we have no money for paving roads. What about the 500,000 he gave away in state grant money for Schutz, the plastics company in Carl? What about the 500,000 he gave away in state grant money for Olympic Steel's regional office in Winder? What about the 500,000 he gave away in state grant money for the Health Department? 2.5 million in free money...grant money. Instead you and I and our children, if they live here, will be picking up the tab for the sewer improvements to Schutz and Olympic, for the new Health Dept when it is built, for the transportation improvements that are so badly needed. Look it up mainstreet and get this information out. Does this sound like efficient government to you? Not to me. In possibly the worst economic environment in history and our chairman singlehandedly gives away 2.5 million dollars in grant money!
