Barrow County Sheriff’s deputies have arrested a man in connection with a Jan. 12 shooting in Braselton.
Lloyd Hudson, 38, of 1235 Highway 124 in Braselton, is facing charges of aggravated assault and violation of Georgia’s controlled substances act.
Deputies were dispatched to Hudson’s residence just after 9:30 p.m. Tuesday evening. Upon arrival, deputies found Kreg Rayburn, 24, suffering from gunshot wounds to the leg and foot. Rayburn was flown by helicopter to Grady Medical Center in Atlanta for treatment.
Investigators are attempting to determine the motive and events that precipitated the shooting, said Inv. Matt Guthas of the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office. Investigators believe there was a dispute between Hudson and Rayburn, but the details of the altercation are still under investigation.
Rayburn was reportedly shot with a .357 revolver. He remains hospitalized at Grady in stable condition.
Wow. Barrow County is getting rough. In a week there has been a murder by stabbing, this guy was shot multiple times, there was an armed robbery and a host of other violent crimes reported in this newspaper. Now does not appear to be the time to be cutting back the public safety budget...
Look at the way our DA handles cases listed in the paper. It won't get better with this DA. He campaigned about how many serious cases he would try and how he would try cases with his other lawyers then look what he said to the Barrow News about his job and how he doesn't have time to try cases???? Isn't that his job? If he tries one serious case a year here like he did in 2009 they won't ever get tried and criminals will be set free to keep committing crimes.
So this DA has to run 3 offices and you think he should be trying all of the cases personally? Get real. He is personally trying cases and he has attorneys that try cases too. More than one case was tried by the DA himself last year and his staff tried even more. In fact I remember reading about a murder and a child molestation he personally tried, and if I recall he won both. I also remember reading about him winning a bunch of motions in the hoschton death penalty cases. Sounds to me like he is trying serious cases.
I HAVE A QUESTION AS A CITIZEN OF BARROW...
HOW MANY OF OUR TOP OFFICIALS TOOK A PAY CUT & HOW MANY GOT RAISES? IF OUR DA HAS TO CUT BACK ON PROTECTING OUR COMMUNITIES & EMPLYOYEES TAKE CUTS WHAT ABOUT OUR COMMISSIONER? FAIR IS FAIR..
Everyone took a pay cut last fiscal year and no one got raises, aside from two or three who were forced to take on additional responsibilities due to staffing cutback and reorganization. The percentage of our pay that was taken was based on base salary.
As elected officials they were not required to be a part of the paycuts. The Chairman voluntarily took a 10% cut when the Commissioners voted on the matter. I don't know if the Sheriff or DA did the same.
This very paper also published an article that addressed this issue and the DA addressed it head on (http://www.barrowjournal.com/archives/1949-D.A.-dealing-with-system-overload.html). Not to mention, you apparently don't read all of the papers that cover this area, because I've seen articles about some very serious cases the DA has been trying recently. Sounds to me like maybe you have a personal issue with him.
