Deputy called after dog smells trouble
A Winder woman became alarmed after noticing that her dog was barking at some bushes. Believing there was a prowler in the yard, the woman called 911.
When the deputy arrived at the residence, he saw the dog standing on the front porch barking at something hidden in the bushes.
The deputy wrote, “After it sprayed me, I observed a skunk walk from the bushes and towards an open field.”
When the deputy informed the woman what happened, she said that explained the bad odor she had noticed in her house.
Other recent incidents investigated by the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office include:
• abandoned vehicle on Haymond Drive. A deputy had a Buick LeSabre towed after finding the vehicle parked in the middle of the roadway. The registration on the vehicle had also been cancelled.
• burglary on Atlanta Highway. A business owner suffered $1,350 in losses from damaged and stolen items.
• burglary on Cavern Springs. A $50 bottle of Greek liquor and a $30 bottle of German wine were stolen from the residence.
• burglary on Hog Mountain Road. A washing machine valued at $200 was stolen from a rental house.
• burglary on Morrow Drive. A woman reported hearing someone “jimmy” her front door. When she reached for her gun, it was missing. The woman said the suspect fled when she screamed.
• burglary on Pearl Pentecost Road. A business was burglarized.
• burglary on Richter Drive. Copper wiring and tubing was stripped from a house under construction.
• burglary on Waterwheel Drive. Approximately $2,600 worth of stereo equipment was stolen from a residence.
• burglary on White Oak Drive. Two window screens and a door were damaged when a burglar entered a garage. Nothing was reported missing.
• burglary on Winslow Way. A woman reported a carpet shampoo machine had been stolen. There were no signs of forced entry.
• civil matter on Mount Moriah Road. The incident was initially reported as a possible stolen vehicle.
• complaint on Lodgeview Drive. A resident complained that repossession men from a furniture store were attempting to take furniture that was not supposed to be taken.
• complaint on Ode Peppers Court. A homeowner reported discovering the door to her home was open when she arrived. Nothing appeared to be out of order.
• criminal trespass on Atlanta Highway. A nail salon manager said that a group of women were acting disorderly and that one had broken a $7.50 bottle of nail polish. The women were gone when the deputy arrived.
• criminal trespass on Davis Drive. A man reported that someone had been riding a bicycle through his yard and had left tire tracks.
• criminal trespass on Hillview Avenue. A woman called police to report that her neighbors were repeatedly driving over her property to access their garage.
• criminal trespass on Loganville Highway. A window valued at $250 was broken in the incident.
• damage to property on Amalie Drive. A nine-year-old child was playing inside a parked vehicle when he put the transmission into neutral. The vehicle rolled backwards striking a fire hydrant and a cable junction box.
• damage to property on Raymond Drive. A neighbor reported that someone had broken a window in a vacant house.
• entering auto on Adams Drive. A MP3 player, ten CDs and a blank check were stolen from a red Dodge Dakota.
• entering auto on Kenwood Lane. Approximately 20 gallons of gas and $1,490 worth of tools were stolen from a Chevy Silverado.
• entering auto on Water Wheel Drive. Approximately 100 cds were stolen from an unlocked Nissan Pathfinder.
• entering auto on Water Wheel Drive. The owner of a Dodge Ram reported that someone stole $1,000 in cash from his vehicle along with a rifle, ammunition, a duffle bag and camouflage clothing.
• financial transaction card fraud on Carl Bethlehem Road. A woman reported over $114 in fraudulent charges to her account after losing her debit card at Home Depot.
• harassing phone calls on Pinecrest Road. A man said his ex-wife had called 40 times over a two day period demanding to see their son despite having forfeited visitation rights.
• harassing phone calls on Princeton Drive. A woman received three calls in which an unidentified male threatened to come to her house and kill her.
• harassing phone calls on Regency Drive. A man reported that he and his wife had received threatening phone calls from his ex-wife. The man suspects that the ex-wife has also been stalking them.
• harassment on Jefferson Road. A woman wanted to press charges against a man who called her a bitch and a whore while the two were at a bar.
• identity theft on Dooley Town Road. A woman discovered she was the victim of identity theft after receiving bills for unpaid taxes from the South Carolina Dept. of Revenue and the Internal Revenue Service totaling over $8,200.
• neighborhood complaint on Etheridge Drive. A man called police after seeing someone hunting squirrels in a neighbor’s yard. The hunter reportedly was pointing his rifle near the rooftops.
• noise complaint on Briarwood Drive. A homeowner reported a teenager was playing his car stereo very loudly despite repeated requests to turn down the volume.
• physical dispute on Cedar Creek Road. A woman and her daughter were arrested after fighting over a missing $10 bill.
• property dispute on Highway 211. A woman and her live-in boyfriend were arguing over who owned a Honda pressure washer.
• recovered property on East Brooke Drive. A stolen four-wheeler was located behind a residence.
• recovered property on Saddle Ridge Drive. A stolen briefcase was recovered.
• shoplifting on Atlanta Highway. A loss prevention officer witnessed a man conceal $340 worth of electronics and other merchandise before exiting the store. The man was arrested.
• stolen vehicle on City Pond Road. A red 1992 Toyota Camry was stolen after the owner left the vehicle unlocked with the keys inside.
• stolen vehicle on Freeman Johnson Road. A blue 1990 Honda Civic was stolen from the residence.
• stolen vehicle on Kay Drive. A thief entered a room off an unlocked garage and took the keys to a red 2000 Dodge Intrepid parked at the residence. When the owner awoke the next morning, she discovered her Intrepid was gone.
• suspicious incident on Alex Drive. A deputy was called to investigate an open door at a vacant, foreclosed home. He discovered a broken window, a missing stove top, a used condom, empty cigarette packs and some used bed sheets.
• suspicious incident on Mount Moriah Road. A man suspected that someone had come into his yard and disturbed some vinyl siding.
• suspicious phone calls on Mary Jane Way. A woman reported receiving several calls in which no one is on the line. She expressed concern that her life may be in jeopardy.
• theft by taking on Arrowhatchee Drive. Christmas decorations and extension cords were reported stolen from the residence. The deputy was able to recover some of the stolen items from a nearby location.
• theft by taking on Business Center Drive. All four wheels were stolen off of a 1997 Ford Mustang.
• theft by taking on Carl Bethlehem Road. A 1993 John Deere tractor valued at $5,000 was reported stolen from the location.
• theft by taking on Carl Bethlehem Road. A husband reported that his wife violated a court order by removing several items from the residence and causing extensive damage to the home.
• theft by taking on Dooley Town Road. A man accused his girlfriend of stealing $280 from him.

• theft by taking on Kilcrease Road. A motor vehicle tag was reported stolen.
• theft by taking on Loganville Highway. A man reported that seven of his video games had been stolen during the night.
• theft by taking on Plaza Drive. After his wallet and computer bag were stolen from his vehicle, the victim reported that his credit cards had been fraudulently used. The total loss reported was $1,882.
• theft by taking on Tucker Road. A business owner reported that an ex-employee had stolen a company cell phone.
• theft of services on Chicken Lyle Road. A Winder Water Authority employee reported the theft of approximately $700 in water from a customer who keeps reconnecting his water after the authority disconnects it.
• 911 hang up on Tanners Bridge Circle. A juvenile inadvertently dialed 911.
• 911 hang up on Herald Drive. A juvenile inadvertently called 911 while playing with the telephone.
• 911 hang up on Shady Trail. The homeowner said she had not dialed 911 and that the trouble must be with her phone service provider.
• 911 hang up on Shady Trail. The homeowner said he had contacted Windstream regarding the problem.
• 911 hang up on Russwood Road. The homeowner said she did not dial 911, but advised her phone service provider was Windstream. According to the report, Windstream customers have problems with their phones dialing 911 when it rains.

• 911 hang up on Old Smith Cemetery Road. A woman mistakenly dialed 911 while trying to dial 611 to report a cable issue.
• 911 hang up on Manning Gin Road. A Two-year old child was playing with the phone and dialed 911.
• 911 hang up on Justin Drive. Juveniles playing with a phone resulted in a deputy being dispatched to the residence.
• 911 hang up on Jim Johnson Road. A juvenile playing on the phone accidentally called 911.
• 911 hang up on Highway 211. The homeowner said he did not dial 911, but said every time it rains his Windstream phone service dials 911.
• 911 hang up on Freeman Brock Road. The homeowner denied calling 911. The deputy noted that the homeowner’s phone service provider was Windstream, which has been known to dial 911 when it rains.
• 911 hang up on Emperior Lane. The investigating deputy spoke with a teenager at the residence who indicated there was nothing wrong.
• 911 hang up on Eastmont Road. A juvenile dialed 911 while playing with the phone.
• 911 hang up on Dee Kennedy Road. The investigating deputy found no problems at the residence.
