More counterfeit bills surface
Barrow County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating two incidents of forgery involving counterfeit $10 bills.
On Dec. 1, a deputy was dispatched to the Publix on Loganville Highway after a customer service representative discovered a counterfeit $10 bill during the daily cash register intake.
On Dec. 7, a store manager at the Citgo station on Patrick Mill Road reported that a young white male accompanied by a young black male entered the store and attempted to pay for gasoline and cigarettes with two counterfeit $10 bills. The men fled when confronted about the authenticity of the bills.
According to the store manager, the two men had a stack of bills from which they pulled the two fake bills. The men were last seen leaving the area in a blue Ford Crown Victoria or possibly similarly styled Mercury.
Two similar incidents have been reported to Statham Police. In both cases, the suspects passed counterfeit $10 bills.
Winder Police are currently investigating two cases of counterfeit bills in larger denominations. Last month, two $100 counterfeit bills were passed at Pawn Mart and on Dec. 5, a $20 bill was presented at the Dollar General store.
Other incidents being investigated by the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office include:
• fraud on Red Oak Way. A woman wired $596 to a Texas address to purchase two Maltese puppies. When she did not receive the puppies, she called the seller and was advised to wire an additional $896 to Romania for insurance. The woman was advised to refrain from wiring money to any person in the future.
• 911 hang up on Tanners Bridge Lane. The homeowner advised that a juvenile had dialed 911.
• theft on Tom Miller Road. Copper wire was stolen from a house under construction.
• theft on Hardigree Road. $4,500 in tools were taken from a business. The manager suspects the perpetrators are disgruntled employees.
• criminal damage to property on Lisa Circle. A homeowner reported $350 worth of damage to an air conditioning unit caused when someone cut wires inside the equipment.
• shoplifting on Carl Bethlehem Road. An unknown white male was observed stealing a Ryobi power tool.
• suspicious incident on Cross Creek Court. A black male claiming to work for AT&T asked the homeowner if she would like to exchange her copper wires for fiber optic cable. She was offered free cable if she switched.
• simple assault on Highway 124. Several individuals provided conflicting accounts of an argument that occurred when the property manager attempted to collect rent. No charges were filed.
• 911 hang up on Cedar Creek Road. A six-year-old child dialed 911 while playing with the phone.
• suspicious incident on Thorn Brook Ridge Drive. A homeowner called 911 after hearing a loud noise.
• suspicious incident on Smith Mill Road. The homeowners reported being awakened by a series of loud knocks on the front door. The complainant said he did not see anything when he turned on his porch light.
• burglary on Amber Ridge Road. An electrical panel box was taken from a vacant home.
• battery on Arnold Road. A resident reported being assaulted by another man who came to the home looking for a dog that the resident no longer owned.
• recovered stolen vehicle on Harmony Grove Church Road. A check of a suspicious vehicle revealed that the car had been reported stolen in Statham.
• theft on Englewood Road. The owner of an Airstream trailer reported $885 worth of property missing from the vehicle. Tools, small appliances and documents containing personal information were among the missing items.
• threats on Wexford Way. A 16-year-old girl reported that the new girlfriend of her ex-boyfriend had threatened her.
• complaint on Oxford Ridge Road. A woman and her sister-in-law called 911 after an argument over house cleaning.
• private property accident on Arch Tanner Road. A sanitation worker reported accidentally knocking down a low hanging electrical wire in the process of emptying a dumpster.
• stolen vehicle on Manning Gin Road. The vehicle owner reported leaving the truck unlocked with the keys in the ignition.
• improperly parked vehicle on Jessica Court. An abandoned vehicle was impounded after being left in front of someone’s house.
• theft by taking on Atlanta Highway. An ice vending machine sustained $200 worth of damage when unknown suspects removed the coin and bill validators valued at $1,000. An unknown amount of money was also stolen.
• theft by taking on Nunally Road. A Kubota front end loader was stolen from the location.
• identification theft on Justin Drive. A woman reported that her estranged father had used her identification to open a cable account and now owed more than $1,000.
• theft on Kailie Drive. Approximately $55 worth of Christmas presents were from a package which had been delivered and left outside the residence.
• Assault on Highway 53. A deputy spotted a vehicle parked alongside Hwy. 53 and stopped to investigate. He heard males arguing in the car and found one male with blood on his face. The male advised he had been in an argument with one of the other passengers, but did not want to press charges.
• stolen vehicle on Carl Bethlehem Road. A red Isuzu Trooper was stolen after the owner left the keys in the ignition.
• theft by taking on East Wright Street. A woman reported that an acquaintance had taken her car keys, but she did not want to press charges. The keys were later recovered.
• criminal damage to property on Hwy. 316. A vehicle sustained $4,000 worth of damage after the owner left the vehicle parked on the shoulder of Hwy. 316. The woman pulled over and subsequently left the vehicle unattended after noticing her oil warning light had activated.
• burglary on J.B.Owens Road. Furniture and tools were stolen from a barn behind the residence.
• fraud on East Bay Street. A woman’s Regions Bank debit card was stolen and used at five different locations. The total amount stolen was $143.95.
• theft by taking on Busby Lane. A homeowner discovered several collectible knives missing after a houseguest was asked to leave. The value of the knives is approximately $100.
• civil dispute on Atlanta Highway. A customer called the Sheriff’s Office after a gas station attendant attempted to charge him for more propane than his tank could hold. The attendant reweighed the tank and collected the proper amount.
• suspicious incident on New Cut Road. A woman reported seeing a flashlight shining into her house.
• suspicious incident on Lucas Way. A woman reported seeing a red flashlight moving across her backyard.
• criminal trespass on Oxford Ridge Road. A man damaged a rocking chair and several plants after the homeowner refused to allow the man to collect some personal items from inside the residence.
• 911 hang up on Loganville Highway. A customer apparently dialed 911 from inside Staples. No trouble was reported at the location.
• theft from Deer River Road. A four-wheeler valued at $10,000 was stolen from the residence.
• 911 hang up on County Line Road. Faulty phone service was blamed for the incident.
• entering auto on Maggie Court. An Xbox 360, a Garmin GPS and two video games with a total combined value of $580 were stolen from a Chevy Silverado. There were no signs of forced entry. A Tom-tom GPS and a blue LED flashlight were also reported stolen from the location.
• burglary on Smith Cemetery Road. Burglars caused $200 worth of damage when stealing $830 worth of items from a garage.
• entering auto on Margi Derive. A carton of cigarettes and an Xbox 360 video game were stolen from an unlocked vehicle at the residence.
• burglary on Tanner’s Lane. A plasma television and an Xbox 360 with a total value of $1,100 were taken from the residence.
• theft by taking on Canyon Court. A resident reported that mail had been stolen out of her mailbox.
• dispute on Stag Court. A deputy was called to accompany a woman to her ex-boyfriend’s house so that she could retrieve a coat she left at the residence. The ex-boyfriend said he had thrown the coat out by the road. The woman found the coat near the road and became very angry. The deputy was able to separate the parties without incident.
• terroristic threats on Argonne Road. A woman reported receiving a text message in which a woman named Ashley threatened to murder her.
• 911 hang up on Christmas Avenue. The call originated from a convenience store. The clerk did not know who had dialed the Sheriff’s Office.
• criminal trespass on Loganville Highway. A business was tagged with gang graffiti.
• criminal trespass on Admiral Circle. A front bedroom window was cracked by unknown persons.
• warrant service on Arrowhatchee Drive. A woman advised that her boyfriend was at her residence and had an active probation warrant out of Gwinnett County. The boyfriend was arrested.
• suicide threat on Fox Run. A man threatened to kill himself after his wife said she wanted a divorce.
• criminal trespass on Blueberry Lane. A homeowner reported that his mailbox had been destroyed.
• 911 hang up on Clarence Edwards Road. The homeowner said she had dialed 911 by mistake.
• burglary on West Winder Industrial Parkway. Over $89,000 worth of aluminum forms were stolen from a business.
• entering auto on Cedar Trail. No details are available.
• harassing phone calls on Argonne Road. The complainant advised he had received 64 harassing phone calls with a 24-hour period.
• theft of services on Saddle Ridge Drive. A City of Winder employee said the homeowner owed more than $500 on an overdue water bill. The homeowner had parked a vehicle over the water cut off to prevent the city from disconnecting his water. The incident was documented.
• burglary on Twin Lakes Road. A mother reported that all of her son’s clothing had been stolen. She estimated the value of the clothing at $3,000.
• damage to property on Etheridge Road. A fence was damaged when a man backed into it.
• 911 hang up on Treemont Trace. The homeowner denied calling 911 and the deputy noted that everything seemed to be in order within the residence.
• criminal trespass on Wilshire Lane. A mailbox, dog run and yard were damaged when someone drove a truck across the yard.
• dispute on Otis Drive. A son accused his mother of stealing $150 and two football jerseys from his room.
