For the past several weeks, firefighters with Barrow County Emergency Services and members of the Barrow County Community Emergency Response Team have been collecting toys to help the Holiday Connection.
“The firefighters and CERT members were out in the cold and rain receiving donations for the last two weeks,” said Barrow County Fire and Emergency Services public information officer Lieutenant Scott Dakin. “Through these donations many children in Barrow County will be able to wake up Christmas morning with presents to unwrap.”
The “Empty Stocking Toy Drive” was able to donate a couple of van loads of toys to the Holiday Connection along with $350.00 in monetary donations.
“It is a very tough year on everyone,” Dakin said. “With that in mind it was even more incredible to see those that gave donations. They realized that even though money was tight there were still people who did not have anything for their children. They gave what they could and for that we are all thankful.”
The Holiday Connection is a county wide program that is operated by Barrow County Family Connections/Communities in Schools. The program works with many different organizations to insure that children in Barrow County wake up to a great Christmas morning.
“The Empty Stocking Toy Drive is always a wonderful program for Barrow County Emergency Services,” Dakin said. “It always shows me that the true Christmas spirit is alive in Barrow County. With that in mind, we want to thank everyone that donated to this year’s drive and wish all Barrow County citizens a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.”
