Police are searching for two thieves with a serious nicotine craving.
Barrow County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the Carl Superette on Atlanta Highway in reference to an alarm call.
Upon their arrival, deputies discovered an open door. During a sweep of the building, deputies noticed several packs of cigarettes scattered across the floor.
Video surveillance showed two males had entered the shop and taken 74 packs of cigarettes with an approximate retail value of $356.
The incident remains under investigation.

Other recent incidents investigated by Barrow County Sheriff’s deputies include:
• accidental damage to property in Statham. A railroad crossing arm was damaged when a tractor trailer driver pulled forward to get his vehicle off the railroad tracks before the train arrived.
• 911 hang up on Ridgeland Road. The homeowner said no one had called 911 and nothing appeared to be out of order.
• entering auto on Custom Lane. Thieves entered the Chevy Tahoe after the owner left it unlocked.
• battery and simple assault on Steed Road. A woman was struck by a male who believed she was deliberately preventing him from obtaining information regarding a hospitalized acquaintance.
• suspicious person on Carl Cedar Creek Road. A resident called the Sheriff’s Office after noticing a male putting trash in a neighbor’s trash can. Upon investigation, the deputy determined the male was disposing of litter picked up alongside the roadway.
• suspicious vehicle on Foxdale Court. The complainant reported that a white male driving a tan GMC Yukon had photographed his mailbox and house with a camera phone.
• stalking on Venture Way. No details were listed in the report.
• criminal trespass on Sunset Drive. The resident reported damage to his fence which had subsequently been repaired. The resident suspects some of his cattle is missing, but was unsure.
• cattle theft on Holsonbeck School Road. Eight calves were reported missing from a pasture. The total value of the missing livestock is $2,800.
• civil matter on Princeton Drive. The homeowner reported a tenant owed $2,800 in overdue rent and had damaged the property. The deputy referred both parties to civil court.
• theft by taking on Kilcrease Road. A man lost his wallet at the Chevron station and later discovered two of his lost credit cards were being used. The man said the wallet also contained both his and his wife’s driver’s licenses.
• theft by shoplifting on Atlanta Highway. A shoplifter was detained at Walmart.
• forgery on Loganville Highway. A Publix employee discovered a counterfeit $10 bill during the cash register intake.
• neighborhood complaint on Wagon Wheel Trail. A resident reported that an individual delivering papers for the “Barrow County Journal” ran a stop sign in the neighborhood and had done so each Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. The man said he asked the driver of the green Mustang to stop running the stop sign and was subsequently threatened by a black, male passenger. The Barrow Journal is delivered via U.S. Mail on Thursdays.

• criminal trespass on Highway 211. A resident complained after a man visited the residence. The man was given a verbal criminal trespass warning.
• criminal trespass on Old Victron School Road. A mobile home sustained $100 in damage after a dog’s chain became stuck in the siding.
• 911 hang up on Westbury Drive. The homeowner said she had not dialed 911 and had been having trouble with her phone service.
• property dispute on Hog Mountain Road. A caller reported a burglary at the residence, but the deputy determined the person was authorized to be at the location.
• noise complaint on Kirkland Drive. A resident complained about loud music coming from a neighbor’s house.
• lost or mislaid property on Athens Street. An elderly man flagged down a sheriff’s deputy to turn over a credit card he had found at Quality Foods.

• illegal dumping on County Line Road. A homeowner discovered trash strewn across his backyard. No identifying papers were found in the debris.
• burglary on Point South Circle. A resident returned home to find her garage door open. Nothing was taken and there was no sign that the home had been entered.
• suspicious incident on East Star Road. A deputy dispatched to a suspected domestic dispute found an intoxicated woman home alone. The woman did not remember dialing 911 and did not appear to be in distress.
• theft by taking on Oxford Ridge Road. A 2004 clack Ford Mustang was reported stolen.
• criminal damage to property on Moonlight Trace. The rear window of a 1999 Honda was shattered.

• suspicious incident on Honeysuckle Trail. A woman called 911 after she thought she heard someone turning the door knob on her back door.

• complaint on Madison Court. A woman accused her ex-boyfriend of stealing $1,000 from her. The ex-boyfriend said she was crazy. The woman was advised to make a report in Gwinnett County where the theft allegedly occurred.
