The Barrow County Board of Education continues to work through the process of finding a new superintendent.

The BOE met Tuesday in a called meeting specifically for that purpose as members sorted through resumes and have now narrowed the applicant pool from 33 to 10. Current superintendent Ron Saunders has already announced his retirement although he has agreed to stay on board as long as needed.

Saunders has served as the Barrow County School System superintendent for the past 12 years. His official retirement begins at the end of May 2010.

The Barrow BOE may reduce the number of applicants even further before interviews begin.

It's time for a concrete exit strategy for Dr. Saunders! He's cost us plenty of embarrassment and law suit money recently. Let's set a definite date for his replacement to be hired, then help the good Super pack and wave him a not-so-fond goodbye!

Wonder why Jackson County's school system is so bad. Yes, the Superintendent is to be charitable an ass. All the credientals can't make you a leader. The esteemed board members share the blame. With the school system record they have a lot of nerve to seek reelection. Wake up citizens new leadweship=changes. As a former president said the buck stops here.

You do realize that Dr Saunders is the Superintendent of the Barrow County school system, don't you? I'm sure Dr Saunders is looking forward to retirement. It's too bad that for all the good he's done, all that will be remember is the missteps at the end...

misteps at the end??? What about the screw-ups throughout his tenure? I am sure he did some valuable things for Barrow Co. schools.....but he will not be missed!

saunders and his pet, ed morrison are the worse things to ever happen to our school system. The money they both spend on personal endeavors is astonishing. Ed morrison has been a complete embarrassment and has spent more tax money on personal items that most anyone is aware of.

also, isn't this the 2nd time ron has retired? Now hell be getting alabama and georgia retirement? Nice, ron. Stay classy. Take ed with you please.
