Sandra Slaton

Sandra Slaton, 61, of Winder, died Wednesday, February 20, 2008.
Born in Barrow County, she was the daughter of the late Otis and Morena Hamby Hudson. She was a homemaker and a member of Lighthouse of Conestoga in Monroe. Mrs. Slaton was preceded in death by her husband, John Henry Slaton.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Kenneth Simpson, Winder; and a sister, Patricia Sorrells, Monroe.
Funeral services were held Friday, February 22, at Smith Memory Chapel with the Rev. Robert Simpson officiating. Burial was at the Appalachee Baptist Church cemetery.

Bethlehem
John Howard Baxter, 58, of Bethlehen, died Saturday, February 23, 2008. Born in Clarke County, he was the son of the late Howard G. and Della Estelle Collins Baxter. He was a retired sanitation worker for the city of Winder.
Survivors include nieces and nephews, Sally Baxter; Daniel Carter; Shane, Christy and Chad Carter; brothers, Billy Baxter, Winder; David Baxter, Twin City; sister, Zelda Baxter, Bethlehen
Funeral services were held Monday, February 25, 2008, at Smith Memory Chapel with the Rev. Bobby Allen officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Tommy Barnes
Winder
Tommy Barnes, 91, of Winder, died Wednesday, February 20, 2008.
Born in Fulton County, he was the son of the late Isaac and Ida Barnes. He was a retired sanitation worker with the City of Chamblee. Mr. Barnes was preceded in death by a his wife, Gladys Barnes; and a son, Harold Tommy Barnes.
Survivors include brothers, Kurt Barnes, Horace Barnes, Jimmy Barnes, Robert Barnes; sisters, Lillie Mae McPhearson, Zona Smith and Barbara Aubrey; and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Memorial services were held Saturday, February 23, at Smith Memory Chapel. The body was cremated.

Sara Norton
Athens
Sara Norton, 81, of Athens, died Sunday, February 24, 2008.
A native of Oconee County, she was the daughter of the late Everett and Myrt Christopher Fielding. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Pierce Norton. Mrs. Norton was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and a member of Crooked Creek Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Michael Jackson, Athens; sisters, Stella Harbin, Monticello, and Bessie Epps, Buford; grandson and spouse, Jake and Karie Stringer; great-grandchildren, Brad and Tyler Stringer; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 27, in the chapel of Bernstein Funeral Home with the Rev. Tom Miles officiating. Burial was in Watkinsville Cemetery. Pallbearers were Jerry Tate, Walt Temple, Montgomery Shelnutt, Eddy Williams, Larry Fielding and John Moore.
