Bethlehem leaders to seek traffic light
In an attempt to be “proactive” on the issue, Town of Bethlehem officials agreed to look into how many traffic accidents have occurred in the past year at the intersection of Hwy. 11 and Star Street.
Town leaders hope to convince Department of Transportation officials that a red light is needed at the intersection. To this point, officials have had no such luck in convincing the DOT of the need.
“I think we should be proactive on this and send them whatever information we can,” council member Scott Morgan said during Monday night’s meeting.
Town attorney Ron Bennett added: “Anything you can do to keep your name at the top of the list would be important.”
DOT statistics show only two accidents have occurred at the intersection, which could possibly be related to the lack of a traffic light. Bethlehem officials disagree with that figure.
“We can think of more than that just between the people in this room,” mayor Sandy McNab said.
The council agreed to have city clerk Kathy Bridges file a request to the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office for accident reports during the past 12 months at the intersection.

Two Accidents??????? Can they count????? I was in an accident there 20 years ago and there were wrecks there all the time!!! They only put the "flashing" light there after my parents petitoned for a red light and that is all they got. Wise up... Bethlehem is growing, there needs to be a light there!!!!!!!!!!!!

I totally agree that they need to have a red light at that intersection. The fact that a school is located on Star St. and the number of buses and cars coming through that intersection should be enough to warrant a red light.
