Graduates of the latest Barrow County Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) course received their completion certificates during the Nov. 10 meeting of the Winder City Council.
“This class was the largest we’ve had so far and it has been great having such a positive response from the community,” said Barrow County CERT president Bob Richardson.
The Barrow County CERT leaders are now gearing up for the next class which is tentatively scheduled to start in February 2010. The class will teach citizens how to be better prepared in case of a disaster and how to help families and neighbors after a disaster happens. CERT course include medical triage, small fire control as well as search and rescue. Students also learn how to mentally cope with the stress and challenges associated with a disaster.
