Woman arrested while racing to gas station

The deputy noticed the woman’s gold Honda Accord weaving in and out of traffic while eastbound on Highway 316. When the deputy activated his radar and checked the vehicle’s speed, the unit indicated the woman was driving 86 mph.

The deputy immediately began pursuing the vehicle. The driver, Taronda Sandria Gibbons, 22, of 2445 Rex Road in Ellenwood, continued to accelerate and weave in and out of traffic.

The deputy checked the speed of Gibbons’ vehicle a second time and determined it was travelling at 95 mph. Gibbons finally pulled over just east of Highway 78 in Oconee County.

When the deputy asked Gibbons why she was travelling at such a high rate of speed, Gibbons said she was about to run out of gas.

Gibbons was arrested and charged with speeding, reckless driving and fleeing and attempting to elude. She was transported to the Barrow County Detention Center and her vehicle was impounded.
