A Winder man was arrested last week after attempting to run over his son with a truck.
The son had just driven his girlfriend to her home on Cedar Trail, when his father, Thomas Ray Ulrich, 44, of 1105 Bankhead Highway in Winder, crashed his Dodge truck into the son’s vehicle.
Father attacks son with truck
Ulrich, allegedly angry that his son was late getting home from his date, was lying in wait in the driveway of the girlfriend’s residence. As soon as the girlfriend stepped out of the car, Ulrich accelerated and struck the front bumper of his son’s vehicle. Ulrich then revved the engine and attempted to drive on top of his son’s car with his son still inside the vehicle.
The girlfriend and the girlfriend’s mother witnessed the incident and yelled at Ulrich to stop. Ulrich swore at the girlfriend’s mother and punched the window on his son’s car before driving away.
When asked why his father would try to run over him, the son said that Ulrich had a drinking problem and was likely intoxicated. The officer noted that the victim was badly shaken from the incident.
Ulrich was charged with family violence aggravated assault for using his Dodge 3500 truck in a manner which could have caused serious bodily harm or death to his son. He was also charged with criminal damage to property for causing more than $500 worth of damage to his son’s car. Additional charges include first degree cruelty to children, third degree cruelty to children, disorderly conduct and hit and run.

Statham man runs, but cannot hide
A deputy on patrol recognized a wanted man near the intersection of Barber Creek Road and Highway 316.
When the deputy exited his vehicle, Derrick Mayweather, 27, of 1678 Doc McLocklin Road in Statham, ran into a nearby wooded area.
After pursuing Mayweather through the woods, the deputy lost sight of him near a church on Barber Creek Road.

The mother said she had not seen her son, but gave permission for the deputy to search a trailer on the property. A Statham deputy had advised the Barrow deputy that Mayweather had been sleeping in the trailer.
When deputies attempted to open the door of the trailer, they discovered it had been barricaded with a chair. Upon making entry to the trailer, a male voice called out, “Who is it?”
The deputies identified themselves and Mayweather surrendered.
Mayweather was arrested on two outstanding warrants for obstruction and theft by taking. Additionally, Mayweather was charged with obstruction for fleeing from deputies the previous night.
After deputies discovered a metal pipe of the type commonly used to smoke crack cocaine in the trailer with Mayweather, he was also charged with possession of drug related objects.
