Almost a year after they first learned of a plan to build two large reservoirs in Barrow County, people who own property near the likely site of the first reservoir learned Tuesday exactly how their land and homes would be affected.
Phil Schmitt of Schmitt Engineering & Land Surveying brought to the meeting of the Barrow County Water & Sewerage Authority four poster-size graphics that were taped together on a wall to show the full length and width of the planned 308-acre Rocky Creek Reservoir.
He said the graphics were compiled by the county’s geographic information services department from a combination of aerial photographs, tax maps with specific parcels, and a preliminary drawing of the lake. The large body of water would affect numerous large undeveloped tracts between Than Skinner Road and Hwy. 53, and it would require the taking of about seven homes.
