Auburn raising rental fees for city’s park facilities

The Auburn City Council at its next meeting plans to vote on whether to change some of the rental fees for certain park and leisure facilities.

Thomas Duncan, the coordinator for the city’s parks and leisure services, presented the proposed rental rates at the April 15 council meeting. The vote on the matter will take place May 6.

The rate for a non-profit group to rent the J.D. Withers Building would jump from the current fee of $10 up to $30 on weekdays and $50 on weekends. The rates for Auburn residents would remain $50 and for non-residents $75.

Duncan recommended increasing the charge for non-profit groups because of a higher demand for the use of the building on weekends.

He said over the past 11 months, non-profit groups had rented the building 56 times and other renters had used it 32 times. [Full Story »]

Journal garners GPA advertising awards

The Barrow Journal won four state-wide awards for excellence in advertising from the Georgia Press Association’s newspaper advertising contest last week.

The Journal won first place for “Best Food Ad” for its McDonald’s series, second place for “Best Health Ad” for the Allergy and Asthma Care Center and swept the “Best Newspaper Promotion” category by winning both first and second place.

“We are thrilled to be recognized for our efforts on behalf of our customers,” said Susan Treadwell, advertising manager for the Journal. “Our philosophy is to help our advertisers generate business, not just to sell them an ad." [Full Story »] 

1960 state title team to be honored
