At a joint meeting of the Winder-Barrow Industrial Building Authority and the Joint Development Authority early Tuesday, a leading real estate firm’s request to begin marketing an IBA-owned property at the intersection of Hwy. 316 and Hwy. 53 went nowhere.

Jerry Maynard of Maynard & Bartlett Realty Group LLP asked the IBA to allow his firm to begin marketing a 181-acre tract that the authority purchased in 2005.
Maynard said his firm already is the listing agent for an adjacent 80-acre tract owned by the Brad Akins YMCA. By marketing the two properties together, the combined 261 acres might appeal to industrial users looking for a larger site.

The four members of the IBA at the meeting – chairman David Smith, vice-chairman David Brock, secretary/treasurer Chris Gray, and county chairman Danny Yearwood – voted to table Maynard’s request until the proposed listing agreement is reviewed. The IBA’s fifth member, Winder Mayor Chip Thompson, did not attend the meeting.

Brock commented that he would be willing to move forward immediately with Maynard’s request, and Smith initially seemed eager to get the marketing under way.

But a new member of the JDA – former county commissioner and Winder attorney Bill Healan Jr. – asked a question that led to a lengthy discussion preceding the tabling of the request.
