WBHS hires new basketball coach

Winder-Barrow High School has selected David Sokol as its new varsity boys basketball coach. Sokol was officially approved by the Barrow County Board of Education Tuesday night. Teen critical after drinking party

A Bethlehem couple that held an underage drinking party for local high school students last Friday night is facing a host of criminal charges after one of the partygoers ended up in a hospital intensive care unit with alcohol poisoning.

The 18-year-old girl was dropped off, unconscious, at Barrow Regional Medical Center in the early morning hours of Saturday. According to a sheriff’s report, she was “totally unresponsive” and was receiving medical support to prevent brain damage or death. [Full Story »]

The one-two combination of Seth Maddox and Hunter Coleman helped the Apalachee High School baseball team earn its third Region 8-AAAA victory of 2009 Monday. Born in Clarke County, he was the son of Bill and Deborah Kirk of Winder and was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Athens.
