The Cardiac Cats live on to fight another day.
The Apalachee High School football recorded just what may have been its most dramatic win in school history Friday by defeating visiting Marist 36-35 in overtime. The Wildcats successfully converted a two-point conversion after pulling to within a point in overtime.
Coach Shane Davis' team will meet Griffin, ranked No. 1 in the state, next Friday. A coin toss Saturday morning will determine which school hosts the contest since both the Bears and Wildcats are No. 1 seeds.
Davis, assistant coach Matt Sorrells and AHS athletic director Brian Moore will meet with representatives and coaches of Griffin Saturday morning in Atlanta at 8:30. A coin flip will be held at this time and the coaches will also exchange game film.
Check the Barrow Journal's website for the outcome of the coin toss determing where the third-round game will be played.
See next Wednesday's print edition of the Journal for a complete recap of Friday's overtime win against Marist and a detailed preview of the showdown with Griffin.
