An Auburn woman was arrested Sunday after allegedly threatening to kill her 14-year-old daughter.
A concerned neighbor notified police after receiving a letter in which the girl stated that she had been locked in her room and was afraid her mother was going to kill her. The girl had asked in the letter that the neighbor notify police.
Woman arrested after threatening child
After meeting with the neighbor, the investigating deputy went to the girl’s house and met first with the mother, Eroina Torres, age 41, of 908 Wexford Way in Auburn.
Torres led the deputy to the girl’s bedroom which was locked. When Torres asked the girl to open the door, the child refused saying, “No, I don’t want you to hurt me.”
Once the girl realized a deputy was present, she attempted to open the door but could not. Torres used a piece of metal to open the door.
The girl said she had asked to go to a party and her mother became angry. According to the girl, Torres threatened to beat her and told her to go to bed. When the girl asked for her phone, Torres refused threatening again to beat the girl. At that point, the girl told Torres that when child protective services arrived, she would tell them the truth.
When the girl locked herself in her bedroom, Torres allegedly said that if the girl did not open the door, she would kill her.
The deputy noticed that the locking mechanism on the door was broken and that there was no way to open the door from inside the room. The girl said she had been locked in her room without food, water or bathroom access for approximately 13 hours.
The Department of Children and Family Services also responded to the scene to investigate.
As a result of the investigation, Torres was charged with terroristic threats and acts, false imprisonment and simple assault.
