It was a successful Saturday for the Winder-Barrow High School competition cheerleading team.
Coach Jerrie Hulsey’s squad won first among 35 schools at a competition hosted by Putnam County High School in Eatonton.
“We had an amazing performance,” Hulsey said. “The team hit everything. They looked like they were having the time of their lives. We had changed the routine a little bit to make sure the routine was clean.”
The Cheer Doggs scored 262 points out of a possible 300 earning marks of 88, 87 and 87.
“I thought these scores were what we should have received,” Hulsey said. “There were no busted tumbling passes and no busted standing tumbling. The tumbling hit and not extra steps were taken. It was very clean.”
The coach said her team made all its stunts and pyramids hit perfectly.
“The timing in the ending baskets was a little off and we will work on it this week,” Hulsey said. “ We will also add a transition in our first pyramid for this week. Everything else will remain the same. We are working on harder tumbling passes and will put those in when they are ready. “
The WBHS Cheer Doggs were also were awarded Grand Champion, signifying. the highest score of the day.
“The crowd was very appreciative of the skills we performed,” Hulsey said.
