Law enforcement officers from the Barrow County Sheriff's Office, the Winder Police Department, the Auburn Police Department and the Statham Police Department were called to investigate numerous incidents and crimes during the past week including the following:
Runaway Audi causes damage
A Winder man was enjoying time outside when he heard a loud crash towards the rear of his property.
Upon investigation, the man learned the noise was caused by a 2004 Audi A4 that had crashed into his shed.
The vehicle was unoccupied at the time of the crash and had rolled down the hill from a neighboring property.
The vehicle owner admitted not putting the car in park or setting the break before exiting the vehicle.
The vehicle then rolled down the hill, crashed through a barbed wire fence and struck the shed causing it to fall forward.
The property owner said this was not the first time he had been a victim of one of his neighbors’ vehicles. In the previous incident, a runaway vehicle caused $250 in damage to the man’s fence.
Damage to the shed was estimated to be $1,250.
No charges have been filed.
Urinating man finds stolen motorcycle
A man called police last week after finding a motorcycle in the bushes at the intersection of Highway 11 and Pleasant Hill Church Road.
The man said he had stopped at the corner to urinate when he spotted the motorcycle.
The motorcycle was located approximately 50 feet off the roadway.
A registration check revealed the Suzuki GS had been reported stolen in Buford on September 25.
The ignition had been pulled and the gas tank cap was damaged.
The motorcycle was placed in storage for recovery by the owner.
“Good Samaritan” steals ring
A Winder driver suffered more than just vehicle damage during a recent car accident.
The driver told a sheriff’s deputy that a woman had stopped to assist her after the accident.
According to the driver, the woman then stole a quarter carat engagement ring.
The ring has an estimated value of $1,500.
The case is under investigation.
Man arrested for doing “bad things”
Deputies were called to a Bethlehem residence after a domestic dispute turned physical.
The wife said her husband was attempting to go out and “do bad things” when she told him he needed to stay home.
The husband, Vang Paul Xiong, age 19, of 1442 Millstone Court in Bethlehem, then ordered the wife to gather her belongings and leave the residence.
The wife was waiting for a ride when Xiong began “putting his feet on her.”
Xiong convinced the wife to go into the bedroom where he began throwing her things around the room. The wife picked up the items, but Xiong then began threatening to throw her belongings out the window.
The wife told Xiong that if he threw her things out the window, then she would throw his belongings out the window.
At that point, Xiong punched the wife in the upper arm. The wife then called 911.
Xiong denied striking his wife and accused her of making too much noise while he was trying to sleep.
According to the police report, the argument began over Xiong’s drug habit. The wife showed the deputy a glass pipe which Xiong used to smoke methamphetamine.
Xiong was arrested and charged with family violence battery.
“Soon to be-ex” causes dispute
A Gainesville man called the sheriff’s office after receiving numerous harassing text messages from a Winder man.
The Gainesville man said he had received approximately 20 text messages from the Winder man during a two hour period.
When the deputy asked why he was receiving so many text messages, the Gainesville man said he was seeing the Winder man’s “soon to be ex-wife.”
The Gainesville man said he did not want to press charges, but wanted to file a report because he heard that the Winder man may have filed a report against him for terroristic threats.
The Gainesville man told the deputy that if the Winder man was going to file a report, he would too.
No charges have been filed.
Woman receives disturbing calls
A 65-year-old Winder woman called police after receiving several disturbing phone calls.
The woman said an unidentified man has called her home phone and cell phone on nine different occasions.
The caller claims to have a package that needs to be delivered and repeatedly asks when the woman will be home.
When the woman asked what sort of package it was, the caller became agitated and refused to provide any additional information.
At one point the caller asked if he should bring a condom when he delivers the package.
The calls have originated from two different phone numbers.
Police are currently investigating.
