Perry Barton was elected President of the Barrow County Historical Society at the October 8 fall meeting.
Barton will replace outgoing society President Bill Cook.
Cook said he has enjoyed his time as head of the historical society and is proud of the progress that has been made during his tenure.
“Our museum has a totally different look today and there are a lot of people to thank for that,” he said. “I’m confident the Barrow County historical society will be better and better in the years ahead.”
Joining Barton as society officers in 2010 are Beth Whitehead, first vice president; Cathy White, second vice president; Druscilla Gregg, treasurer and Beth Barton, secretary.
Trustees for the upcoming year include David Hawthorne and Violette Lyle (Auburn), Lorene Lay and Judy Loftin (Bethlehem), Billy Banks (Carl), Mary Alice Lay and Becky Dunagan (Statham), David Jackson and Sara Pope (Winder) and Myles Godfrey, John Mobley and Mike Strickland (honorary trustees).
In other business, the historical society:
