Public hearings set for fire tax increase
The City of Winder is considering increasing the current fire tax millage rate from 2.15 mils to 3.0 mils.
The city will hold three hearings on the proposed increase to allow citizens the opportunity to provide input.
The hearings will be held at the Winder Community Center, 113 East Athens Street, at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 7, Monday, May 19, and Tuesday, May 27.
Winder currently has a Class 3 ISO rating. In order to maintain that rating, the city needs to replace a 1978 ladder truck currently used by the Fire Department.
If approved, the fire tax increase would amount to an additional $34 per year in taxes on a $100,000 home.
