A Winder-Barrow High School student was cited for underage consumption of alcohol after drinking what he said was Gatorade mixed with an energy drink.
A school coach investigating the incident noticed the student’s eyes were bloodshot and his speech slurred. When asked if he had been drinking, the student claimed he had consumed nothing but milk with his lunch.
After the coach noticed the odor of alcohol on the student’s breath, he again asked the student if he had consumed any alcoholic beverages.
The student then admitted taking “only a sip” from a classmate’s Gatorade bottle which he confessed might have contained alcohol.
The student said he had been dipping tobacco and had taken a large swig of the liquid to clean out his mouth.
The student’s breath alcohol registered .116 grams.
By the time police were notified of the incident, the student who had provided the alcohol had left school grounds.
