The Winder Police Department has been awarded a $23,860 grant from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS).
The Highway Enforcement of Aggressive Traffic (H.E.A.T.) grant is designed to aid local law enforcement agencies reduce accidents caused by impaired drivers and to reduce excessive speeding, increase safety belt usage and educate the public about traffic safety.
The H.E.A.T. initiative was implemented to assist Georgia jurisdictions with the highest rates of crashes, injuries and deaths.
“This combined enforcement effort by police, sheriffs, and State Troopers is the kind of high visibility protection the public deserves on our highways, “said Director Bob Dallas.
Officer Brent Davis is the H.E.A. T. officer for the Winder Police Department.
Davis has been a member of the Winder Police Department for five years and has undergone extensive training in the detection of impaired drivers at the Georgia Public Safety Training Center.
“I’m excited Winder Police Department was awarded this grant which allows me to continue my efforts in reducing the number of traffic violations within our community,” Davis said.
Davis said he also enjoys working with other agencies across the State of Georgia, all of which enforce safe driver behavior.
Davis will join other specialized traffic enforcement units in the Operation Zero Tolerance initiative and the Click It or Ticket campaign. H.E.A.T. units also participate in year round high visibility concentrated patrols, multi-jurisdictional road checks and sobriety checkpoints. H.E.A.T. units also participate in the GOHS Rolling Thunder Task Force.
