Over $600 worth of tires were reported stolen from a West May Street business last week.
The suspect ordered the tires using a credit card. When the credit card was declined, the business contacted the suspect advising him of the problem.
The suspect then provided a valid American Express card number. The suspect said he would send his mechanic to retrieve the tires.
After the tires were picked up by the man purporting to be the suspect’s mechanic, it was discovered that the American Express card number had been used fraudulently.
The actual credit card holder notified American Express that the charges were unauthorized and placed the charge in dispute.
The incident remains under investigation.
