Record enrollment for latest CERT class

“We are very excited about the attendance in this fall class,” said Bob Richardson, President of the Barrow County CERT.

Since its inception, the Barrow County CERT program has provided emergency preparedness training for 54 people. The team currently has 30 active volunteers.

Most participants cite a desire to be better prepared to help their own families in an emergency as their primary reason for undergoing CERT training.

“That is what the class is all about - helping your family, then your neighbors and then your community if needed," said Richardson.

The Barrow County CERT team provides assistance to local public safety agencies in several ways. The CERT team routinely teaches fire safety classes, helps public safety with traffic control as needed, distributes emergency preparedness information and assists first responders with search and rescue operations.
