A Monday afternoon house fire was brought quickly under control by Barrow County firefighters.
Fire and Emergency Service personnel were dispatched to the 100 block of Matthew School Road at approximately 5:30 Monday afternoon.
“First arriving firefighters found smoke throughout the home,” commented Lieutenant Scott Dakin, public information officer for Barrow County Fire and Emergency Services.
Firefighters located the fire in the basement of the structure with the use of a thermal imaging camera. The fire caused damage to the room of origin and to surrounding rooms. The house sustained smoke damage throughout.
The American Red Cross is providing assistance to the family of four displaced by the fire.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Fire Investigation Unit.
