Yearwood 'wreck' has bloggers buzzing

Tuesday and Wednesday, local bloggers reacted to “news” that BOC Chairman Danny Yearwood had wrecked his county-issued vehicle.

If not factual, the bloggers’ comments were entertaining. Bloggers accused Yearwood of just about every crime in the book, most of it not even close to the truth.

The real story: Yearwood's car was scratched by another vehicle at an Atlanta hospital while he was visiting commissioner Billy Parks.

Thank you for clearing this up.You gotta love good ol Winder gossip.People just make stuff up and run with it.I heard he wrecked on the highway and he was drunk.And the truth is he was not even in the vehicle when it was scratched.I can't wait for the picture although some will still argue even after they see the picture!

I must be running with the "wrong" crowd because I hadn't heard any of this.

Of course you are right about the people in Barrow making stuff up and running with it. Next thing you know it's the truth and even faced with the evidence to the contrary - no one believes it. They stick with the lies.

Good luck on this one Yearwood. You know that picture "could have been" faked!! Could have faked it, could have made it up, after all you know ......

County personnel policy requires a blood/alcohol test when a county employee is involved in a car wreck. I wonder if Danny boy took his like everyone else?

Why would Yearwood be required to take a drug test? He wasn't in the car, nor was the car in motion at the time it was scratched by another vehicle in a parking lot?
Come'on people, use some common sense here.

Because the county employee policy says so. Plain and simple. Common sense has nothing to do with it. Its done because of an agreement with the county's insurance provider. Yearwood was responsible for the car, he parked it in the parking lot and it was involved in some sort of collision with another vehicle. It doesn't make any sense, but that thats par for the course.

I don't think any insurance carrier intends for someone to take a drug test if the car isn't in motion and there was nobody in the vehicle.

We're talking about the government here. Common sense has no place. Government employees can be compelled to take a drug test. The insurance requirement is in place for the benefit of the insurance provider. They are looking for excuses not to pay a claim. They provide a discount on the county's insurance premium based on the county's policy to drug test. On a side note, any county employee who files a "first report of injury" complaint also has to take a drug test, regardless of the injury and regardless of how minor.

For your information I am a barrow county empolyee, I have filed a first report of injury before, and I did not take a drug test. A drug test is not always required.

Four your information, please refer to your county policy manual. Specifically, Chapter 9, section 5, subsection (a) "An employee who sustains an injury on-the-job must, at the time of the injury, notify his/her supervisor on the forms prepared and provided by the Human Resources Department. The employee must also submit to a drug test within eight (8) hours of the injury."

If you failed to submit to a drug test after filing a first of injury report, then you are wrong, and your supervisor is wrong. A drug test is always required.

This is the first time I'm hearing about this. It's funny how a simple scratch can turn out to be something completely different. Luckily, it was a scratch, those can be cleared up quickly and easily. Yet, my question is why did he take his work vehicle to Atlanta during personal time? Does he not have another car that he could've taken down?

I don't think insurance drug testing requires people to be tested who weren't even in the damn car when it got scratched while sitting still in a parking lot! Can't you guys find something better to whack Danny around with than this nonesense?

It would be nice, first if you would nicer language in your responses. Your are not looking no better than Danny.I quess you have learn from him. My question is to why was he driving his work car to Atlanta on personal business, more taxpayers money used for personal business.

Hey people,
I did not vote for Danny but he is our commission chairman. It does not help Barrow county to acting like buzzards picking our officials apart. Quite running for your next office and work together to better our county or it may come back to bite you in the ballot box.

Stop hating. Stupid is not a crime so Danny will be OK. Where's the recall? You better buy more garden hose to put out your own house fire. Four years of Danny will take twenty years to fix.
